Elliot Minor
Interview

"You want my orgasm noise?"

The last time we interviewed Elliot Minor we had high hopes for them. It's fair to say those hopes were dashed like so many low-selling ships on Top 40 rocks. But it seems, with new single 'Parallel Worlds', Britain has finally caught up with their guitar pop anthems and now everyone likes them. Absolutely everyone.

We decided to see what everyone was saying about Elliot Minor on the internet and then asked them questions based on the shocking things we found.

Hello, Alex and Ali from Elliot Minor. 4Music does lots of research for interviews, we don't just type the band's name into Google and see what comes up... but when we did we found that the top result for Elliot Minor was an unofficial MySpace page called 'Elliot Minor Phwoar'.

Alex: Elliot Minor Phwoar?
Ali: Er...Whatever floats your boat really.

What other noises would be applicable?

Ali: Noises? ...To describe our band? Um... that's a difficult question.
Alex: I like orgasm noises. Ali?
Ali: Right, my favourite noise.... Oh you want my orgasm noise? Umm, I dunno. Um, I like sheep.

Sheep making orgasm noises?
Ali: As I said, whatever floats your boat. But no. Sheep in general.

We also found a website where someone had asked the question: Are Elliot Minor a good band? Did you ask that question?

Alex: No.
Well, NirvanaGal has replied: "I don't know what to make of them." So what should NirvanaGal make of you?

Alex: Um, I reckon she should come to one of our shows and judge us by our live performance.
Ali: Then buy the album after that.
Alex: We put a lot of work into it. We don't just play our songs, we jam them out a bit. So, we like to surprise everyone really.

Ali: I think about half the songs are pretty much double the length of their standard length.
Alex: Guitar solos, instrumentals...
Ali: Extensions at the end. Allsorts.

So you're saying she should come and see your show because you have long extensions? Don't answer that. Another response to that question was someone who calls themselves FoxyFino and they say: "My nine-year-old likes them." So are you particularly popular with that age group?

Ali: Um, yeah, I wouldn't say nine-year-olds but I'm glad she's getting into it .

What music were you listening to when you were nine?

Alex: The Postman Pat theme tune. I'm a very slow person.
Ali: Twenty-one and still likes his orgasm noises so...
Alex: That doesn't really stop at 21 though.
Ali: No, you never really lose that.

Alex: I was playing the piano and violin when I was that age. I was bullied into it. When I started doing it at school I hated it. It took like all your free time. It was horrible.

We've got another one, Samia says: "I've only heard one song by them, 'The White One Is Evil', or something like that. It was alright." So have you got any songs that Samia might be more impressed with?
Ali: Check out 'Parallel Worlds'.

People do seem to be more impressed with that one. Why do you think that is?

Alex: It's more like a sing-a-long song. I mean definitely at our live shows, it's one that people would sing along to.
Ali: 'The White One Is Evil' is one of my favourite tracks but I think 'Parallel Worlds' hit the right buttons for a lot of people.
Alex: The album version is a LOT better than the single version, because it was cut down quite a lot. That's a huge problem with labels, they do so much good for you but at the same time they do like to get hold of the song and just completely wreck it.

Yeah, what do they know? Here's some comments we found on YouTube about your new video. Number One Slut, she says... we're presuming that's a she... she says: "He looks nothing like Gerard Way." Have other people commented on how much you don't look like Gerard Way?
Alex: Um, no.
Ali: She's accurate.
Alex: I've never had that before actually, no. I get Derek from Sum41 which is, you know, fair dos.

We thought you were him. OK, Splinter171 says: "They're a lot harder now."
Alex: A lot harder? Hard in what way?
Ali: I got beaten up last weekend and I stared crying. I was outside a kebab shop, a bit drunk and I think I just got a bit lippy. I got a bit of abuse thrown at me so I threw it straight back... and then he punched me about five times. So I'm definitely not hard.

OK, one last question. We've written this one ourselves. If we interview you in a year's time, what will we be asking you?
Alex: What went wrong?
Ali: How does it feel to have a Grammy? I'm joking. We wouldn't really.
Alex: I thought you said Granny.
Ali: Mark Ronson's got loads of Grannies.

On that note, thank you very much, Elliot Minor.

Elliot Minor’s new single 'Parallel Worlds' is out now, and their debut album is out on April 14.
